Hi there, I'm Alexander Macdonald and this is my website. On it you'll find lots of random projects I've been involved in, along with some of my attempts at photography and, of course, my amazing PhD work!
October 2008
I'm currently in San Francisco doing an internship at Adobe working on the AIR team helping with the AIR 1.5 release.
June 2008
After three and a half years in the Document Engineering Lab at Nottingham Uni I've finally completed my PhD. I've been investigating various methods of optimising the layout processing stage of VDP document evaluation, or to quote from my abstract:
“Given a template document specified as a tree of layout functions, bound and unbound content, this thesis shows how employing
the techniques of partial and speculative evaluation allows invariant content to be identified and cached. It also shows how
a system of designer-specified hints allows for the automatic creation of multiple, highly-efficient, copy-hole variants of
the document.”
